[ A message pops up in your inbox from an anonymous source. How strange! If you don't delete it immediately, you'll be greeted with an audio message that's quiet, at first. In fact, it's quiet enough that just in time for you to turn it up, it starts to speak. It sounds suspiciously like Xerxes Break if you know him, but at the same time, there's a totally stupid voice being used, since it's not like Break would send this message along. Emily, though? Of course. She's such a gossip. ]

Had an x-ray done today. Guess what they found? It was you, safely tucked away in my heart! They said my heart is fine with a friend like you in it. Send this to all the people you love and care for, because if you don't, then something preeeetty bad might happen to them! Heart failure is pretty serious~! Kehehehehehe!!!

_{[It's almost shocking how fast he gets a call back, but he shouldn't be surprised. They're diving right into business.]}

I don't know, but he's not in a good place right now. Where are you?

What do you mean by that? Where is he?

_{[He should be worried, right? Well, he is worried. And he is forgetting to answer your question, because of that.]}

_{[Ugh, Yuto. He doesn't have all the details.]}

_{[That's plenty conversation between the two of them for now. IV hangs the call, though he'll pick back up as soon as possible should Yuto need him again. For the time being, he's got Yuya to whom to tend.]}

_{[That is not something what he expected to hear. Ruri. Ruri is here. For a moment those words ring in his ears as if he couldn't believe what he heard just now.

But instead of happiness, there's concern appearing in his eyes. If Ruri is here, then why Shun sounded distressed?

[The reply is a bit muffled by the scarf that Shun's pulled up and by the sharp whistling of the wind, but it does nothing to mask Shun's agitation.]

Yuuya mentioned you are from Heartland, correct? I heard something related to that a little while ago... so I wanted to verify the accuracy of it.

And what did you hear?

That Heartland was destroyed at the hands of a group called Academia.

[That's the gist of it, at least, but there's so many details she's missing.]

Please, I need to know what happened. What's going to happen. I need your account of things, as much as you can give me.

_{[He's silent for a moment, before he replies.]}

It's true. Three years ago Heartland was attacked by invaders from another dimension. Those invaders all specialized in Fusion summoning and came from a place called Academia. [Anger can be heard in his voice now.] They destroyed Heartland and turned people into cards - even those who couldn't duel.

[He falls silent again. He's talked about this so many times, but it's never easy. He can't forget that day when everything was destroyed, when his world fell apart. He can still hear screams of people and laughs of Academia soldiers.

When he speaks again his voice is somewhat quieter.]

But not everybody had been defeated. Those who survived became members of the Resistance. [...] We still fight Academia and we will not stop, until we save everyone.

[What about us? is the impulse that jumps into her head. What became of her, of Ryouga, of their friends? Were they killed? Captured? Did they become part of this "Resistance", too?

She doesn't ask. It's not like he would know, surely. Fusion is such an old style of summon that it's hard to imagine they'd be able to overwhelm Xyz users so thoroughly, but if they were all taken by surprise...]

Why did it happen? Why, so easily...?

_{[Why indeed. He doesn't have an answer for that.]}

They suddenly appeared in Heartland one day. I don't know what's their goal, but... they hunted people as though it was some kind of game. [Anger can be heard in his voice as he says that.]

...But we can still do something. We can still fight.

_{[That's all what matters. They've been fighting for long and there's no doubt in his heart that Academia will be defeated.]}

[Yuuya said as much, too, about the hunting people down part. So far, their accounts match up, and that disturbs her.]

Then for my part, I want to try and stop it before it happens, or at least mitigate the damage. Maybe if we're prepared to fight them before they come for us...

And how do you plan on doing that? [He's silent for a moment, before he speaks again.] The soldiers from Academia have duel disk that can turn people into card. If you lose against them or if you can't duel at all they won't have any mercy on you. They almost never duel anyone one on one. You always have to face three or four of them at once.

And even if you win... there will be more of them coming after you.

_{[He frowns to himself.]}

...I'm not saying that to stop you from trying. I also wish things would be different. I... just want you to understand our situation better.

That... is a problem, isn't it...

[Organizing enough counter-forces to keep them at bay is one thing, but their tactics would dismantle even twice their own numbers eventually, from the sound of it. But if they could somehow hamper that ability to gang up on others or card them...]

But what about their disks? Do you think it would be possible to find a way to disable them? If we had that kind of ability before the invasion even started... wouldn't the outcome be very different?

The problem is how to disable them... We've been fighting for three years and the best we could do to fight them was stealing their technology and doing exactly the same thing they did to us...
